"I just want advice for my computer consulting business. No vendors. No promos."
"I want how-to advice for building a successful managed service practice."
"Help me figure out how to become a managed service provider without spending a fortune!"
You Got It! We can do that!
Freeday Friday is a chance to get your questions answered by me (Karl) - and occasionally others - about the business side of running your IT consulting practice. I gets lots and lots of email, and I can't answer it all. I *do* sell my consulting time, but I really don't like doing that because I feel like I need to charge too much. And one of my mantras is to stop trading dollars for hours.
If you want to buy my time, you can do so at $250 an hour (US Dollars).
Here's my philosophy on time, money, and advice: There are three kinds of delivery systems.
1) If we're talking one-on-one and I'm focused completely on solving your problems, then I think I should be paid for that. That's why I shy away from lunches and dinners where people want to pick my brain.
2) If I'm giving one-to-many advice, like a presentation, then I'm much more likely to give it away for free. But it's not specific to your business and getting too bogged down in one person's problems is a distraction for everyone else.
3) In some cases, I've compiled good information intended to be educational, and I've spent and time money putting it in a format to be distributed. This includes books, recorded seminars, audio programs, etc. I charge for these and try to keep the price reasonable for the content delivered. You can go buy all the good stuff right now at www.SMBBooks.com.
Freeday Friday is my best one-on-one consulting advice
- with an audience listening in.
Here's how it works:
For one hour a month, I will take questions and give the absolute best, focused advice I can give. This is NOT a program for interviewing people in the SMB space or talking to vendors about the coolest new stuff. For that, see Cloud Services Roundtable.
I will take questions by email - to KarlP at smallbizthoughts.com. At the beginning of the hour, I will pick one question to read. Then I will answer that question. It might take awhile.
After that, I will take a question from a live caller and answer that. Then another and another.
The "hour" will probably be more like 50-55 minutes so you can run off to your next appointment.
Aussies and New Zealanders Get Their Own Program
I'll be honest: The folks down under have put up with some very bad time slots over the years. They want to be involved and the pay the price by getting up in the middle of the night to do it.
Well, this program's different. I'm doing a show that fits their morning time. It might be a little less convenient for me, but it's perfect for the folks in Oceanic time zones. I'm going to try the 9:00 AM time slot.
I will start with an email question from Australia or New Zealand. After that, I'll take calls from there. I'm not saying I'll discriminate against the rest of the world, but that's really what I'm doing. :-)
If we run out of Aussies and Kiwis, we'll take whatever questions people have.
Canadians, Americans, and Europeans have their own show. Of course anyone can listen in, provided there are enough phone lines.
Keep Me Honest! Here are some Guidelines.
I'm telling you right now. This show will not be filled with advertising, marketing, or promotions. I will not buy additional phone lines for this. I'm using a tool that I've paid for already, so I'm not going to pay more to give stuff away.
I'll take feedback on time slots, but my convenience comes first when I'm giving away free advice.
This will be a little free-flowing, so if two people appear to have the same question, I might open up the phone lines for a discussion.
My goal is to make this truly useful to you. Why? That's easy. I want you to tell the world, Facebook it, promote me on LinkedIn, blog, Twitter, and generally tell the world about the great, free advice you get. Tell them about my books and seminars. And maybe you'll decide to buy something yourself.
Recordings: I know someone will ask. We're going to try to record, but if it doesn't work out, or I forget, then I'm not going to worry. Recordings will NOT be posted for free. They will be in the members area for Cloud Services Roundtable. Membership has its privileges.
