The Globalization of SMB

- a Webinar Series

from Small Biz Thoughts

The world is becoming very flat and very small. In other words, we're more connected than ever before. Things that seemed "exotic" twenty-five years ago are very common today. How does this affect the Small and Medium Business consultant?

This series addresses many aspects of the globalization of SMB, featuring guests who have experience working across borders, across oceans, and across lots of time zones.

This series was recorded on the last Tuesday of each month from December 2014 through June 2015. There are seven webinars in all.

For new webinars, always stay subscribed to my weekly email list here. AND subscribe to our YouTube Channel:

Richard Tubb

Our June guest was Chris Worman, TechSoup’s Senior Director, Marketing and Communications.

Chris formerly worked in TechSoup’s Warsaw office supporting their Global Partner network, and prior to that, operated their partner NGO in Romania. With the combination of Chris’ knowledge of the TechSoup Donations, and other Programs, along with his practical experience operating and supporting NGOs that operate the TechSoup donation programs in other countries, he is the perfect person to provide insight on how to best leverage the TechSoup programs from various countries.

Richard Tubb

Our May guest was Vijay Nyayapati from Computer Support Company in Auckland, NZ.

I've been connected to Vijay for a long time and had the chance to meet him on my recent trip to Australia and New Zealand. Even more recently, I connected with him in Nashville, TN at the Robin Robins Bootcamp.

Vijay has a very interesting story. He has started businesses on two different continents! Vijay has lived in 4 different countries, and decided to move to New Zealand under extreme trying circumstances, but managed to continue with what he left off in the country he emigrated from. He's a true entrepreneur and likes a challenge.

In addition to running his own business, he participates in a mastermind group, as many of us do. Like many groups, they take turns meeting in each other’s' cities. In Vijay's case, that means traveling to other countries just to hold the meeting.

Spoiler: If you've never seen a REAL $100 Trillion Dollar Bill, check out this webinar!

Our April guest was Richard Tubb from Richard is a former Managed Service Provider and now an international business coach.

For more than ten years, Richard has traveled back and forth between Europe and North America. As a MSP, and as a coach/consultant for other MSPs, he has learned a great deal about working on the global scene and working with people from various cultures.

Ken Edwards, Maverick Mesa

February's call with Ken Edwards from Maverick Mesa Computers was a GREAT introduction to working with manufacturers and outsourced support in other countries.

Ken is well known in the I.T. community as a managed service provider. But he's been working on a different kind of business for many years. Five years ago I interviewed Ken about working with companies overseas to develop products and bring them to market.

Ken now has a healthy "second" business working with companies to create specialty products that he sells online. He has a store on Amazon and his products come up very high on searches.

Try this: Go to and search for "oven mitts. There you'll find a set sold by "The Triumphant Chef." As of this recording, those are the #4 best selling oven mitts on Amazon! In this Webinar he walks us through finding products to sell, finding a manufacturer, and a lot more.

We also talked to Ken about traveling to China to work with manufacturers to create products that stand out from the crowd. And we find out what he's learned as a small I.T. consultant about working in the global market.
